Dear i5k Workspace@NAL community – Welcome to the July 2026 installment of our quarterly newsletter, with updates on the i5k Workspace@NAL and the i5k initiative.

New and updated datasets

We have three new organisms and five genome updates! Most are open for manual annotation at the i5k Workspace@NAL. For manual annotation of the three Drosophila species, please connect with the Genomics Education Partnership.

  1. We have updated the look and feel of the i5k Workspace@NAL main website (https://i5k.nal.usda.gov/). New functionality includes updated page layouts; improved faceted search results; and adjustable display numbers in the search, organism overview, and data downloads pages.
  2. Our functional annotation pipeline has a new DOI: https://dx.doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.dm6gp7n6jgzp/v1
